Why are 2D and 3D calculations different from jackpot combinations?
In the exact-order model, 2D has 31 possible values at each of two positions: 31 × 31 = 961 outcomes. Three digits from 0 to 9 give 10 × 10 × 10 = 1,000 outcomes. Repeated values are included. A six-number jackpot instead chooses distinct values without counting their order.
What does 1 in 5,245,786 mean for Lotto 6/42?
There are 5,245,786 distinct sets of six numbers from 42, calculated as 42! / (6! × 36!). Under the equally likely outcome model, one set has a 1 in 5,245,786 chance of matching all six in one draw. This is not a guarantee after that many draws or the probability of any smaller prize.
